Titan submersible implosion

18 June 2023

The Titan submersible implosion occurred in June 2023, when the submersible Titan, operated by the company OceanGate, was lost during a dive to the wreck of the Titanic in the North Atlantic. Five people were on board: OceanGate's chief executive Stockton Rush, the British explorer Hamish Harding, the businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, and the French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet. Contact was lost less than two hours into the dive, and a large international search followed. Debris was found on the seabed near the Titanic, and the authorities concluded that the vessel had suffered a catastrophic implosion. Investigations examined its experimental carbon-fiber hull and safety concerns raised earlier by experts.
