Construction of Stade de France

28 January 1998

The Stade de France is the national stadium of France, located in Saint-Denis, a suburb north of Paris. It was built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and held the final in which France beat Brazil to win the title for the first time. The design by a group of French architects features a huge elliptical roof supported on pylons. The stadium is used for football and rugby internationals, concerts and athletics, and it hosted the 2007 Rugby World Cup final and events at the 2024 Summer Olympics. It has a capacity of around eighty thousand.
