Tony Blair was born on 6 May 1953 in Edinburgh. A British Labour politician, Blair became party leader in 1994 and reshaped it as New Labour, moving it toward the political centre. He won a landslide in 1997 to become, at 43, the youngest prime minister in modern times, and served until 2007, winning three general elections. His government introduced the minimum wage, devolved power to Scotland and Wales, and helped broker the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland in 1998. He supported the 1999 intervention in Kosovo and the invasion of Afghanistan, and his decision to join the 2003 invasion of Iraq proved deeply controversial, later examined by the Chilcot Inquiry. After leaving office he served as a Middle East envoy and founded the Tony Blair Institute.
