Psy was born on 31 December 1977 in Gangnam District. A South Korean rapper, singer and producer, Psy became a global phenomenon in 2012 with the single Gangnam Style, whose video, with its comic horse-riding dance, became the first on YouTube to pass one billion views. The song satirized the lifestyle of the wealthy Gangnam district of Seoul, and reached the top of charts in many countries. He had been a popular entertainer in South Korea since the early 2000s, known for his energetic stage shows. He studied at Boston University and the Berklee College of Music, and later released follow-up songs such as Gentleman, and runs his own entertainment company.
