Marine Le Pen was born on 5 August 1968 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. A French politician, Le Pen is the daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of the National Front. A lawyer by training, she took over the party in 2011 and worked to soften its image, expelling her father in 2015 and renaming it the National Rally in 2018. She reached the second round of the presidential election in 2017 and again in 2022, losing both times to Emmanuel Macron, though with a growing share of the vote. Her party's positions on immigration, national identity and the European Union remain controversial. In 2025 she was convicted of embezzling European Parliament funds and sentenced to a ban on running for office, a ruling she contested.
