Margaret Thatcher was born on 13 October 1925 in 2, 4 And 6, North Parade. A British Conservative politician, Thatcher was the first woman to become prime minister of the United Kingdom, serving from 1979 to 1990, the longest continuous term in the twentieth century. A chemist and barrister by training, she led the Conservative Party from 1975. Her government cut income tax, privatised state industries, curbed the power of trade unions, as in the miners' strike of 1984 and 1985, and fought the Falklands War in 1982. She had a close partnership with Ronald Reagan and was a strong critic of communism. She resigned in 1990 after a party revolt over her leadership and the poll tax.
