Mein Kampf, meaning My Struggle, is a book by Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party, whose first volume was published on 18 July 1925 and the second in 1926. Hitler dictated much of it while imprisoned in Landsberg after the failed Beer Hall Putsch of 1923. It combines autobiography with a political program, setting out his antisemitism, his racial ideology, his hostility to communism and his demand for living space in the east. The book sold modestly at first but became compulsory in many settings under the Nazi regime. After 1945 the copyright passed to the state of Bavaria, which blocked reprints until it expired in 2016, when a critical edition was published in Germany.
