The 2023 Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh was a one-day military operation by Azerbaijan against the breakaway Republic of Artsakh, a region populated mostly by ethnic Armenians. It followed a nine-month blockade of the Lachin corridor, the only road linking the area with Armenia, which caused shortages of food and medicine. Azerbaijan, which described the action as an anti-terrorist operation, attacked with artillery, drones and ground forces, and the Karabakh Armenian forces, outgunned and without the help of Russian peacekeepers, agreed to a ceasefire and to disarm. Within days, most of the ethnic Armenian population left for Armenia, and the self-declared republic announced it would dissolve. The offensive ended a conflict over the territory that had lasted for over three decades.
