2014 Peshawar school attack

16 December 2014

The 2014 Peshawar school attack was carried out by gunmen from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, who entered the Army Public School in Peshawar, in the northwest of Pakistan, and opened fire on students and staff. More than one hundred and forty people were killed, most of them children, making it one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country's history. The militants said it was in revenge for a military offensive against them in North Waziristan. Security forces killed the attackers after a siege lasting hours. The massacre caused national and international outrage, and the government responded by lifting a moratorium on executions in terrorism cases, adopting a National Action Plan and setting up military courts.
