Saturn Awards

1972

The Saturn Awards are annual American awards for science fiction, fantasy and horror in film, television and home media, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. The academy was founded by Dr. Donald A. Reed, who created the awards to recognize genre works that were often overlooked by mainstream prizes such as the Oscars. They were first presented in the early 1970s, and the categories later expanded to cover animation, streaming series and a wide range of acting and technical work. Winners have included Star Wars, Alien and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the awards remain a barometer of fan-favored genre entertainment.
