Release of Visual Studio

1997

Visual Studio is an integrated development environment from Microsoft, in which programmers can write, test and debug software in one application. The first version brought together several of the company's separate language tools, among them Visual Basic, Visual C++ and Visual J++, into a suite. In the early 2000s it became the main tool for the .NET Framework and for languages such as C#. It has been updated many times since, adding support for web, mobile and cloud development, and Microsoft later released a separate, lighter editor called Visual Studio Code that became extremely popular. Visual Studio remains one of the most widely used environments for Windows software.
