Swedish Wikipedia is the Swedish-language edition of the free online encyclopaedia Wikipedia. It was launched in May 2001, in the first months after the English edition began, making it one of the earliest language versions. Over the following years the number of articles grew steadily through the work of volunteer editors, and it passed a million articles in the 2010s, helped in part by bot-created articles on species and places. It is among the larger editions of the project in terms of article count, although its number of active editors is smaller than that of the biggest editions. Like all Wikipedia editions, it is run by volunteers and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation.
