Release of Polish Wikipedia

26 September 2001

The Polish edition of Wikipedia, Wikipedia polskojezyczna, was among the first editions in languages other than English, created in the first year of the project. It grew quickly and became one of the largest editions, with more than a million articles, ranking among the top ten by article count. It is written by volunteers in Poland and by Poles abroad, and it covers subjects ranging from Polish history and geography to science and culture. The community has several times taken part in protests, including a blackout in 2012 against the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement.
