Publication of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

16 July 2005

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth novel in J. K. Rowling's series about a young wizard, published by Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom and Scholastic in the United States. Its release was marked by midnight events at bookshops around the world and it set sales records in the English-speaking world. The story follows Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts, in which Dumbledore shows him memories that reveal the early life of Voldemort and the existence of the Horcruxes, objects in which the dark wizard hid fragments of his soul. A subplot concerns Draco Malfoy and the mysterious owner of an annotated potions textbook, who is the Half-Blood Prince of the title. A film adaptation followed in 2009.
