Publication of Estonian Wikipedia

24 August 2002

The Estonian-language edition of Wikipedia is one of the many language versions of the free online encyclopedia. Estonian is a Finnic language spoken by around a million people, mainly in Estonia, and the project gives its speakers an encyclopedia written in their own language. It was launched as part of the early growth of Wikipedia in languages other than English, which followed the founding of the English edition in 2001. Like other editions, it is written and edited by volunteers.
