Chinese Wikipedia is the Chinese-language edition of the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, which began in the early 2000s, not long after the project itself was founded. It is written in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters, with software that converts automatically between the two forms and regional vocabulary variants, so that readers in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore see text in their own conventions. The edition is written by volunteers around the world and is one of the larger editions of the project. It has been blocked by the authorities in mainland China at various times, and since 2019 the whole of Wikipedia has been inaccessible there. A separate Cantonese edition exists.
