Charlotte's Web is a children's novel by the American writer E. B. White, published in 1952 with illustrations by Garth Williams. It tells the story of Wilbur, a young pig who is saved from slaughter by Fern, a farm girl, and who then lives in the barn, where he befriends a clever spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is again threatened, Charlotte weaves words into her web, such as Some Pig, to convince the farmer that he is special. The book deals gently with friendship, loyalty and death, and has become one of the best-selling children's books in American history. It was adapted into animated and live-action films, and is often read aloud to children in classrooms.
