Founding of WWE

1952

WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation, is an American professional wrestling and entertainment company, whose roots lie in the Capitol Wrestling Corporation founded in the 1950s by Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt. It was transformed in the 1980s by Vince McMahon, who bought the company from his father and took it into national television with events such as WrestleMania, helped by stars like Hulk Hogan. It later faced competition from World Championship Wrestling, which it bought in 2001. WWE has grown into a global media business and merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship's parent company in 2023 to form TKO Group Holdings.
