Publication of Angels & Demons

2000

Angels & Demons is a thriller novel by the American author Dan Brown, featuring the Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon. In the story, Langdon is called to a Swiss research laboratory to look at a murder and then races across Rome to prevent the destruction of Vatican City by a stolen canister of antimatter, at the hands of the secret society called the Illuminati. The book draws on real places, such as the churches of Rome and the Large Hadron Collider's predecessor at CERN. Although it was published before The Da Vinci Code, it was only after that book's success that it became a bestseller. A film version starring Tom Hanks appeared in 2009.
