Origins of Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina

2000

The Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the top division of association football in the country. It began in 2000, after the war of the 1990s, when separate leagues that had operated along ethnic and regional lines began to be merged into a single national competition. Clubs such as Željezničar and Sarajevo from the capital, Zrinjski Mostar and Borac Banja Luka have been among its leading teams. The champion earns a place in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
