from 21 February 2005 to 19 July 2008

Avatar: The Last Airbender is an American animated fantasy television series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko for Nickelodeon, which ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2008. It is set in a world divided into four nations based on the elements of water, earth, fire and air, in which only the Avatar can master all four. The story follows Aang, a young airbender who wakes after a hundred years in an iceberg, and his friends Katara, Sokka and Toph, as they try to end the war begun by the Fire Nation. The series drew on East Asian and South Asian cultures, martial arts and philosophy. It was praised for its storytelling, character development and humor, won an Emmy award, and led to a sequel series, The Legend of Korra.
