American Horror Story is an anthology television series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk for the cable channel FX. Each season tells a self-contained story with a different setting and mostly new characters, in a haunted house, an asylum, a coven of witches, a freak show and other locations of horror. A repertory company of actors, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange and Lily Rabe, reappears in different roles from season to season. The first season, subtitled Murder House, was set in a haunted Los Angeles home. The series has been successful and has led to spin-offs and a large fan community.
