Wikinews is a news website run by volunteers under the Wikimedia Foundation, which also hosts Wikipedia. The English edition was launched in November 2004, and it later spread into other languages. Its aim was to produce news articles written from a neutral point of view that anyone could edit, and it encouraged original reporting as well as summaries of other sources. Compared with Wikipedia it attracted far fewer contributors and readers, and its output was small. It remains an example of the attempt to apply collaborative editing to journalism.
