Creation of Microsoft OneDrive

1 August 2007

Microsoft OneDrive is a cloud storage and file synchronization service. It was launched as Windows Live Folders and was soon renamed SkyDrive, then became OneDrive in 2014 after a trademark dispute with the British broadcaster BSkyB. It lets users store files online and synchronize them between computers and mobile devices, share documents with other people and edit them together with Office applications. OneDrive was integrated into Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11, and it is offered with a limited amount of free storage and larger paid plans, often bundled with Microsoft 365. It competes with services such as Dropbox and Google Drive.
