The Global Sumud Flotilla was an international civilian convoy of boats that set out from ports in the Mediterranean in late summer 2025 with the declared aim of carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and challenging Israel's naval blockade. Several hundred participants from dozens of countries, including activists, politicians, doctors and the climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, took part. The convoy drew wide international attention during a period of famine warnings and continuing war in Gaza. In early October, Israeli naval forces intercepted the vessels at sea and detained the people on board, who were later deported. Israel said the flotilla was a political provocation, while the organisers described it as a peaceful humanitarian mission.
