Construction of RheinEnergie Stadion

16 September 1923

The RheinEnergieStadion is a football stadium in the Mungersdorf district of Cologne, and the home of the club 1. FC Koln. The original stadium, the Mungersdorfer Stadion, was part of a large sports park promoted by the city's mayor Konrad Adenauer, who later became the first chancellor of West Germany. It was rebuilt in the early 2000s as a modern football arena in time for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, taking its present name from the energy company that bought the naming rights. The stadium hosted matches in that World Cup and in the 2024 European Championship, when it was known as Cologne Stadium. It is known for its atmosphere and for the passionate support of Cologne's fans.
