Founding of SS Lazio

9 January 1900

Societa Sportiva Lazio is the football section of a multi-sport club based in Rome, the oldest of the city's major clubs. It was founded as Societa Podistica Lazio by a group of athletes in the Prati district, and its colours of white and sky blue were taken from the Greek flag in honour of the Olympic Games. Lazio won its first Serie A title in 1974 and a second in 2000, in a period of success that also included a European Cup Winners' Cup in 1999. The club plays at the Stadio Olimpico, which it shares with Roma. Its supporters are known as the Laziali, and the Rome derby is among the most heated in Italy.
