Founding of Pizza Hut

1958

Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain that specialises in pizza. It was started in Wichita, Kansas, by two brothers, Dan and Frank Carney, who were university students at the time and opened the first restaurant in a small building that gave the chain its name. The business began to sell franchises the following year and expanded rapidly throughout the United States and then overseas, with pan pizza and later stuffed crust becoming signature products. It was bought by PepsiCo in 1977 and spun off in 1997 as part of the company now known as Yum Brands. Pizza Hut operates restaurants in well over a hundred countries.
