Founding of Lenovo

1984

Lenovo is a Chinese multinational technology company, with headquarters in Beijing and Hong Kong, and one of the largest personal computer makers in the world. It was founded as Legend by Liu Chuanzhi and a group of engineers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, starting with the importation and distribution of computers and the development of a Chinese-character card. It adopted the name Lenovo in the early 2000s as it prepared to expand abroad. In 2005 it bought IBM's personal computer business, including the ThinkPad line, and in 2014 it acquired IBM's x86 server business and Motorola Mobility from Google. The purchases made it a truly global company with research and manufacturing sites in several countries.
