The Instituto Federal da Bahia, known as IFBA, is a public federal institution of technical and higher education in the state of Bahia in northeastern Brazil, with its original campus in Salvador. It traces its origins to a vocational school for apprentices created in the early twentieth century under the national government. Over the years it changed names several times, was known as a technical school and then as a federal centre for technological education, before taking its present form in 2008 as part of Brazil's network of federal institutes. Today it offers secondary technical courses, undergraduate degrees and postgraduate programmes at campuses across the state, with a focus on professional and technological training.
