Founding of Honda

1946

Honda is a Japanese manufacturer of motorcycles, automobiles and power equipment. It was founded in Hamamatsu by Soichiro Honda, an engineer, in the years after the Second World War, with an early product being a small motor attached to a bicycle. The company grew into the world's largest maker of motorcycles, helped by the success of the Super Cub, and began producing cars in the 1960s. Its Civic and Accord models became popular in many countries, and Honda also developed outboard engines, generators and aircraft. The firm has long taken part in motor racing, in both motorcycle and Formula One competitions, and it has headquarters in Tokyo.
