Founding of U.C. Sampdoria

1946

Unione Calcio Sampdoria is an Italian football club from Genoa, formed by the merger of two older clubs, Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria, and its name combines parts of the two. Its blue shirts with a white, red and black band make one of Italy's best-known kits. The club's greatest period came in the late 1980s and early 1990s under the president Paolo Mantovani and the coach Vujadin Boskov, when the team of Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1990, the Serie A title in 1991, and reached the final of the European Cup in 1992, losing to Barcelona. It shares the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with Genoa, in the Derby della Lanterna.
