The Federation Internationale de Volleyball, or FIVB, is the world governing body for volleyball in all its forms, including indoor, beach and snow volleyball. It was founded in Paris in the spring of 1947 by delegates of national federations, with the Frenchman Paul Libaud as its first president, and today it has its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. The FIVB organised the first world championships in 1949 and campaigned for the sport's inclusion in the Olympic Games, where indoor volleyball made its debut in 1964 in Tokyo and beach volleyball in 1996. The game itself had been invented in the United States in 1895 by William G. Morgan. The federation has a larger number of national members than almost any other sports body.
