Henry Ford died on 7 April 1947 in Dearborn, aged 83. An American industrialist, Ford founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903 and in 1908 introduced the Model T, a simple and affordable car that put motoring within reach of the middle class. He and his engineers developed the moving assembly line at the Highland Park plant, which sharply cut production time and costs, and in 1914 he introduced the five-dollar day, a high wage for the time. His methods, known as Fordism, influenced mass production worldwide. He was also known for his publication of antisemitic articles in his newspaper The Dearborn Independent, which damaged his reputation, and for his opposition to labour unions.
