Founding of University of the Bío-Bío

9 April 1947

The University of the Bio-Bio is a public university in southern Chile, with campuses in Concepcion and Chillan, in the region named after the Bio-Bio river. Its present form dates from the late twentieth century, when it was constituted from regional branches of earlier state institutions. Its roots lie in teacher training and technical education in the two cities. The university offers degrees in engineering, education, architecture, business and the sciences, and it has been one of the regional universities which expanded higher education outside the capital, Santiago.
