Final Solution

from 1941 to 1945

The Final Solution was the Nazi regime's plan to murder all the Jews of Europe, the genocide known as the Holocaust. Mass killings began with the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, when mobile killing units shot hundreds of thousands of Jews. At the Wannsee Conference in January 1942, Nazi officials coordinated the deportation of Jews from across Europe to extermination camps in occupied Poland, including Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec and Chelmno, where most victims were killed in gas chambers. About six million Jews died, along with large numbers of Roma and other victims of Nazi persecution. The killing ended only with Germany's defeat in 1945.
