The Golden Globe Awards are American honours for film and television, first presented in January 1944 by a group of foreign journalists in Hollywood who later organised themselves as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. For decades the ceremony was seen as a relaxed and informal event that served as an early indicator of the Academy Awards, since it rewards drama and comedy or musical productions in separate categories. The show was televised from the 1950s and became a major television occasion in its own right. Criticism of the association's membership and lack of diversity led to a broadcast boycott in 2022, after which the organisation was dissolved and the awards passed to a new owner.
