Discovery of S/2007 S 3

18 January 2007

S/2007 S 3 is a small irregular moon of Saturn, found in 2007 by a team of astronomers led by Scott Sheppard. Like most of Saturn's outer moons discovered in recent years, it is a tiny retrograde body, probably a few kilometres wide, that orbits the planet at a very large distance and was most likely captured long ago. It carries a provisional designation, giving the year of discovery, the planet and its order of announcement. Little more is known about its composition or origin.
