On the evening of 22 March 2024, gunmen attacked the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Krasnogorsk, on the outskirts of Moscow, shortly before a concert by the Russian rock band Picnic. The attackers shot at the audience and set fire to the building, causing the roof to collapse; more than 140 people were killed and many more were injured. It was the deadliest attack in Russia in many years. The group Islamic State Khorasan Province claimed responsibility, and several men from Tajikistan were arrested and charged. President Vladimir Putin nevertheless tried to link Ukraine to the attack, a claim that Ukraine rejected and for which no evidence was given.
