Google Photos is a photo and video storage and sharing service from Google, which was announced at the company's developer conference and split off from the social network Google+. At the start it offered unlimited free storage of photos at a slightly reduced quality, a feature that drew many users until the policy ended in 2021. Its main attraction was the use of machine learning to recognize people, places and objects, so that pictures could be searched by words, and to organize them into albums, collages and animations automatically. It is available as an app for Android and iOS and on the web, and has become one of the most widely used photo services in the world.
