Construction of Stadio Olimpico

4 November 1932

The Stadio Olimpico in Rome stands in the Foro Italico, a sports complex built in the Fascist era to a design by Enrico Del Debbio. It first opened as the Stadio dei Cipressi and was greatly rebuilt in the 1950s, then used for the 1960 Summer Olympics, when it hosted the opening ceremony and athletics events. It was renovated again for the 1990 World Cup, and it is the home ground of the football clubs Roma and Lazio. The stadium has also been the venue of European Cup finals and of the opening match of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.
