Peter O'Toole was born on 2 August 1932 in Leeds. A British-Irish actor, O'Toole trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his name on the stage in Bristol and London before his breakthrough as T. E. Lawrence in David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia. He received eight Academy Award nominations for Best Actor without winning, and was given an honorary Oscar in 2003. His films include Becket, The Lion in Winter, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, The Ruling Class and My Favorite Year. He was known for his striking looks and his fondness for drink and wild living, and he continued to act into his seventies.
