21 June 1955

Michel Platini was born on 21 June 1955 in Jœuf. A French footballer and later football official, Platini was an attacking midfielder who played for Nancy, Saint-Etienne and Juventus, and captained the French national team. He was named European Footballer of the Year three times in a row, in 1983, 1984 and 1985. He led France to the 1984 European Championship at home, scoring a record nine goals in the tournament, and to the semi-finals at the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.
