Wikivoyage is a free, multilingual online travel guide written and edited by volunteers. It began as a fork of Wikitravel, when a group of contributors, mostly from the German-language community, broke away after disagreements with the company that owned the older site. In 2012 the Wikimedia Foundation approved it as a sister project of Wikipedia, and the communities of the two travel guides merged. Its content is released under a free licence that lets anyone reuse and adapt it. Articles describe destinations, with sections on how to get there, what to see and do, where to eat and sleep, and how to stay safe, and they are organized in a hierarchy from continents to districts of cities.
