Release of Toy Story

22 November 1995

Toy Story, directed by John Lasseter, was the first feature-length film made entirely with computer animation. Produced by Pixar for Disney, it follows Woody, a cowboy doll voiced by Tom Hanks, who sees his place as a child's favorite toy threatened by Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger figure voiced by Tim Allen. The film combined a script praised for its humor and emotion with songs by Randy Newman. It was a major commercial success and received an Academy Award for Lasseter for its achievement. Its success made computer animation the dominant form of feature animation and led to several sequels.
