Rotten Tomatoes is a website that collects reviews of films and television programmes, and displays them as a percentage score, the Tomatometer, which shows the proportion of critics' reviews that are positive. It was created by three friends, Senh Duong, Patrick Lee and Stephen Wang, who were fans of Hong Kong cinema and wanted a place to collect reviews. A film is labelled fresh if at least sixty percent of reviews are favourable, and rotten if below that. The site was bought by IGN, and later by Flixster, then Warner Bros, and since 2016 has been owned by Fandango. It has become influential, though critics argue that its simple score hides nuance.
