Release of Danish Wikipedia

1 February 2002

The Danish-language edition of Wikipedia is one of the many language editions of the free online encyclopedia run by the Wikimedia Foundation. It was started in the early years of Wikipedia, soon after the English edition was created in 2001, and it is among the older non-English editions. Danish is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, mainly in Denmark, with a minority in Germany's Schleswig region and on the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Over time the edition grew to hundreds of thousands of articles written and maintained by volunteer editors, who set their own editorial policies within the broader Wikimedia framework.
