Release of Croatian Wikipedia

16 February 2003

The Croatian-language edition of Wikipedia was launched in early 2003 and is written and edited by volunteers. Croatian is closely related to Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin, and there are also Wikipedias in those languages, which has led to many discussions of language and national identity. In 2021, an independent review commissioned by the Wikimedia Foundation found that a group of administrators on the Croatian edition had pushed a far-right and nationalist viewpoint, and the Foundation removed several of them. The case has been seen as a notable example of how a small community can be captured, and was followed by reforms and efforts to improve the edition's neutrality.
