Release of Cinderella

15 February 1950

Cinderella is an animated musical film produced by Walt Disney, based on the fairy tale as told by Charles Perrault. It tells of a kind-hearted young woman mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters who is helped by her fairy godmother to attend the royal ball, where she wins the heart of the prince. The film's songs include Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, and the mice Jaq and Gus provide much of the comedy. It was the studio's first full-length animated feature in some years after the Second World War, and its success restored the company's finances. The film was directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske, and it was nominated for three Academy Awards.
