Release of Charlotte's Web

22 February 1973

Charlotte's Web is an animated musical film based on the 1952 children's novel by E. B. White. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera and directed by Charles A. Nichols and Iwao Takamoto. It tells of Wilbur, a young pig who is saved from slaughter by a friendship with a clever barn spider named Charlotte, who weaves words into her web, such as Some Pig, to convince the farmer that the pig is special. Debbie Reynolds voiced Charlotte, and the songs were written by the Sherman Brothers, who also wrote the music for many Disney films. The film was reasonably successful, though it was less admired than the novel. A live-action version followed in 2006.
